Is it OK to use generic ink in Epson printer? ›

An Epson Printer can work best with an original Epson ink cartridge, but it can be coaxed to print using cloned or third party inkjet cartridges.

For businesses and frequent printers we have 603XL Bulk Packs available with Extra Blacks or Extra Colours. Or for the more occasional printer, we have standard multipack, colour multipack or individual inks. All our Epson 603 inks are super high capacity, offering over double the ink capacity of an original 603XL.

Check the gold chip contacts within the ink cartridge holder for any debris or dried ink, wipe with a lint-free cloth if necessary. Make sure that the cartridges are in the correct slots. Check the position using the coloured label guide, located on the plastic above the ink cartridge holder.

One of the primary benefits of XL and high-yield ink cartridges is their cost-effectiveness. While these cartridges may have a slightly higher upfront cost compared to standard cartridges, they often provide a significantly higher ink volume or page yield.

A high-yield ink cartridge produces 2-3 times the print volume of standard ink. But the exact page depends on different HP cartridge models. For example, HP 67 black ink prints 120 pages and HP 67xl black ink prints up to 240 pages, but HP 63 black ink prints 190 pages and HP 63xl ink can print up to 480 pages.

Sealed ink cartridges, when stored properly, can have a shelf life of approximately 24 to 36 months from their manufacturing date.

Non-genuine inks aren't designed and tested by Epson, which means that your printer could be vulnerable to malfunctions that are not covered by your printer warranty.

As expected, brand name manufacturers like Canon, HP, Brother, and Epson will tell you that their ink products are superior and remanufactured ink will damage your printer.

All cartridges must be installed with ink for printing and printer maintenance. For print quality, some ink remains in replaced cartridges. Designed for EPSON cartridges only: Other brands of ink supplies are not compatible and, if described as compatible, may not function properly or continuously.

Epson does not recommend refilling or using 3rd party ink cartridges. Using these products will not void the product's original warranty, however, if these 3rd party products cause a failure, the repair of that failure will not be covered under warranty.

There may be a fault with the ink cartridge(s). Replace the unrecognised cartridge with a new genuine Epson ink cartridge. If the printer does not recognise replacement cartridges i.e. the red ink light remains illuminated and/or the LCD panel reports an error, this indicates the issue is with the printer.

It's important to note that compatible and aftermarket cartridges are different from counterfeit cartridges that are labeled as OEM products but are actually fraudulent. As long as your third-party ink cartridges are labeled as such, they're totally legal to buy and use.
